Biography:

Michael is the Co-Founder and CEO of Certification Europe. He setup Certification Europe because he felt that the process of certification and standardisation could be approached in a more commercial fashion. When the industry was deregulated in 1999 he set up Certification Europe with the vision of making the way business is done, globally, better.

Michael is a graduate of the University of Ulster and the Universidad de Zaragoza, Spain and completed a Masters in European Policy and Regulation at Lancaster University in the UK. He was a founding member of the Centre for Corporate Environmental Management (CCEM) at the University of Huddersfield in the UK where as a Research Fellow, he lectured for three years in the School of Business on various management standards.

Michael Brophy is a member of two National Standards Consultative Committees including the national consultative committee on Information Communication and Technology Standards, providing advice and guidance to the National Standards Authority of Ireland on the drafting and implementation of new standards and revision of existing national standards in Ireland.

Michael is one of Ireland's leading authorities on standardisation and has also served on various EU Commission committees as an expert in information security and electronic signature standardisation.

Michael Brophy is an Irish Delegate to the International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) involved in various ISO Technical Committees and Work Groups. He is actively involved in the review of current international standards.

Michael is a member of the European Forum for Electronic Business (EEMA). Michael was also selected by the US Department of Commerce to develop the standard for information security and electronic signatures within the Egyptian Government. Michael was the project leader of the review of the security of the Electronic Voting System in Ireland.

Michael was the Lead Auditor for the first organisation in Ireland to achieve certification to the BS 7799 standard (now ISO 27001), and has conducted evaluations and certification audits on a wide range of organisations, including, The Comptroller and Auditor General, The Department of Defence, Wyeth Medica, PCI, Health Protection Surveillance Unit, Health Services Executive South, The Eastern Health Shared Services, Dionach, Sysnet, and Voicevault.
