There is no entitlement to paternity leave in Ireland. A parent is entitled to 14 weeks unpaid parental leave for each child, subject to 1 years' continuous service and certain other conditions. There is no entitlement to pay from employers or any social welfare payment equivalent to maternity or adoptive benefit for parental leave. |

In general, an employee has no right to be paid while on sick leave. Employers may decide their own policy on sick pay and sick leave. Employees may apply for the state illness benefit, provided requisite social insurance contributions have been made. |
