If an employee is on paid sick leave on a public holiday, it has been held that the granting of such day off with pay does not satisfy the employee’s statutory entitlement in respect of the public holiday. In other words, even if an employee receives a day’s sick pay on a public holiday, this does not mean that he or she has also received his or her public holiday entitlements.
