In this respect, the Employment Equality Acts, 1998 – 2008 prohibit an employer from treating an employee less favourably in relation to conditions of employment on any one or more of the nine prohibited grounds (gender, marital status, family status, disability, religious belief, membership of the Traveller community, disability, race, nationality, ethnic or national origins or religion).
