It is perfectly in order to specify a closing date and time for receipt of job applications, provided the same closing time and date is specified and applied consistently in respect of each candidate.
Where a job application arrives after the closing date, an employer is under no obligation to consider it. In exceptional circumstances, e.g. where there is a postal strike or the employer’s online application system is not operating correctly, the employer may wish to extend the application deadline for a further time period. However, there is no legal obligation on an employer to do so and again this must be applied
