What happens if there is no established / written contractual retirement age to begin with? Introducing one in new contracts of employment for new employees would be relatively straightforward but the employer would need to be able to justify the retirement age selected and explain the basis for it (see later below). For existing employees who do not currently have contractual retirement ages in their contracts of employment, it would be considerably more difficult for employers to unilaterally introduce or impose one unless they had strong grounds for
