We currently have an employee on parental leave availing of one day per week. With the new changes to the parental leave entitlement can this person who is currently on parental leave avail of the additional days.

Yes, the legislation provides that from 8 March 2013, employees may avail of the longer parental leave period, which is 18 weeks leave per child. The new Regulations (S.I. 83 of 2013, European Union (Parental Leave) Regulations) do not exclude employees who are currently availing of parental leave.
