The Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty T.D. has launched a public consultation process and a Strawman proposal for a new ‘Automatic Enrolment’ Retirement Savings System in Ireland; the ESRI has found that non-permanent or “contingent” employment in Ireland has fallen back to pre-recession levels and lies below the EU average; and some 120,000 workers will end up paying income tax for the first time, with others having to pay the higher 40pc rate as their earnings will push them into the upper tax band.
