Starting in Northern Ireland Electricity, Sam spent five years learning the ropes of what was then ‘personnel management’ as a graduate and during this time helped to set up the first Equal Opportunities unit in the organisation. Sam left NIE to join Nortel Networks, and has acted as HR Business Partner for a number of international business units. He specialises in employment law, dispute prevention and strategic collaborative working in industrial and employment relations. Mark is the former Northern Ireland Convenor of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and the Chair of the NI ICSA Governance Institute. He is an accredited mediator, a member of the Employment Lawyers’ Group and the Industrial Law Society and is a regular speaker on the employment law circuit and contributor to employment law publications.

Orlagh O'Neill is a Partner and Head of the Employment Team at Carson McDowell Solicitors in Belfast. She advises mainly employer clients on a wide range of employment issues and acts for some of Northern Ireland's largest employers. Her education clients include universities, regional colleges and a number of voluntary grammars. This year Chambers and Partners Guide to the Legal Profession ranked Orlagh as Band One for Education. AMH has Learning Disability, ASD and Eating Disorder services as well as 3 Men’s Sheds and an Employer Consultancy. AMH also delivers therapeutic services through their New Life Counselling service to over 2,700 service users pa including adults, young people and families.
David is passionate about the mental health sector and has raised a range of issues and client concerns at Stormont and Westminster. He played a leading role in advocating for the recently established Mental Health Champion role and has consistently lobbied against the imbalance in funding for mental health for NI. AMH has grown to meet the wellbeing and mental health issues of the region and recently celebrated achieving IiP Platinum accreditation.
He has previous experience with the banking, property, consumer and retail sectors and having been raised in NI he has since worked in Europe, Africa and the Middle East delivering leadership and transformation programmes.

Emma McIlveen

Emma McIlveen is a barrister with extensive experience of employment law and discrimination issues.
She has appeared in the Employment Tribunals, Court of Appeal and in front of Regulatory Panels. Emma represents both Claimants and Respondents and has acted as sole counsel in a wide range of matters including complex discrimination matters dealing with disability, age, race, pregnancy and sex discrimination. She also has experience of handling claims for unfair dismissal, discrimination by association, unfair recruitment and selection procedures, TUPE and unlawful deduction of wages. In addition to this, she has experience of representing vulnerable Claimants and is well versed on Galo adjustments.
Emma serves on the committee of the Employment Lawyers Group in Northern Ireland. Emma is also called to the Bar of Ireland and is an accredited mediator with the Resolution Centre in Belfast.

Charles Cotton Senior Performance and Reward Adviser

Charles Cotton is the senior adviser for performance and reward to the CIPD. He directs its reward research agenda and recently produced a survey on UK reward management. He is also responsible for the CIPD’s public policy work in the area of reward and has given evidence to select committees on banking pay executive remuneration and politicians’ expenses as well responding to various consultations, such as on pensions, retirement and corporate governance.

She qualified as solicitor in private practice in Birmingham before returning to Northern Ireland in 2001. Michelle is also qualified in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.
Michelle is a Board Member (Employer Representative) for the Labour Relations Agency.

Seònaid Ó Murchadha Workplace Coordinator

Founder of Amputee Disability Federation Ireland, Seònaid Ó Murchadha (pronounced ‘Show-nid Oh Muraku’) has been promoting the employment of disabled people for more than two decades, regularly contributing pieces across news media, Irish national radio, and television.
With certification from the International Disability Management Standards Council as well as recognition from the Canadian National Institute of Disability Management & Research (NIDMAR), she helps organisations embrace disability and difference by providing creative solutions to disability inclusion at work, facilitating inclusive recruitment processes, and advising on policy. She also represents the Independent Living Movement Ireland on employment issues at government level and was honoured to be elected to their board of directors last year. She currently lectures at Maynooth University on Disability Studies and provides HR support for members of the Irish Small and Medium Enterprises Association.
Nicknamed the Bionic Business Woman by broadcaster Conall Ó Morain when she received her new bionic arm in 2017, she uses the moniker as her social media handle as it is much easier for others to spell or remember!

Jason Elliott was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2013 and is the Associate Head of School of Law at Ulster University. As a practising barrister, he has developed a largely civil practice representing individuals, companies and public bodies in litigation. This covers a wide range of areas including personal injuries, wills and employment law. In terms of employment law, he has represented both applicants and respondents in the Industrial Tribunal. At Ulster University, Jason lectures extensively on the civil areas of practise such as Equity and Trusts and delivers employment law lectures for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Seamus is the only member of the Education and Law Association in Northern Ireland. He specialises in advising schools and colleges on policy matters, employment issues and student welfare.
