Dealing with Teacher Underperformance

Dealing with Teacher Underperformance

Dealing with underperforming teachers while remaining within the law can be difficult. Often, if mishandled, head teachers can be accused of bullying, leading to further complications.

This full-day course is designed to give participants the confidence to work with underperforming teachers under the statutory guidance. Delivered by a leading education expert and highly experienced employment lawyer, this seminar is designed to explain how the procedure is intended to work, what it requires and how best to tackle underperformance issues under these measures.

Learning outcomes:

  • You will have several easily-applied options for attendees to tailor when back in school.
  • You will leave with a list of useful resources, tools and support that is available to help them feel less exposed
  • You will be aware of the likely pitfalls and common solutions in relation to natural justice and procedural breaches.
  • You will understand how the five steps procedure is applied but, perhaps more importantly, will also understand how to identify behaviours and performance that might be better dealt with outside the procedure for dealing with teacher underperformance.
  • You will have detailed notes on the newly revised Circulars and relevant case law discussing practical tips and what each decision reflects, for later study, plus a checklist of useful tips for dealing with teacher performance and behavioural issues in schools.
